Building connections: the Oxford Communications Community

**Developing our community together** 30 May 2024

We are exploring ways to further develop knowledge-sharing and to better support and engage our members. This includes gauging interest in Communities of Practice, an initiative underway across the University with a more structured approach to bringing together staff within professional areas to connect, collaborate, solve problems, and support career fulfilment and development. If you have any ideas or thoughts about how we can work together better, contact Gill Green at gillianlouisegreen@gmail.com, who is managing this work for the Communications Community.

Wherever you work in the collegiate University, and whether communications is your key function or only a small part of your role, you can join the Oxford Communications Community to make contact with colleagues working in communications and to share knowledge and ideas. The University-wide Communications Community exists alongside divisional and college networks.

The network is centred around an active Microsoft Teams team, in which everyone is invited to participate.

The Public Affairs Directorate manages three channels for the Oxford Communications Community:

  • a Microsoft Teams group, which you can join by completing the form;
  • this Hub, a University website with guidance and resources for communications tasks;
  • the Digest, a newsletter containing time-sensitive notices such as job vacancies in communications in the University; and
  • in collaboration with divisional communication leads, an events programme: monthly continuing professional development sessions for the community to share tips, resources and case studies.

A calendar highlighting useful dates (including issue and deadline dates for University Bulletin, Digest and Gazette) are available to view in a shared calendar

Community representatives

Representatives from the University and colleges convene regularly to discuss relevant activities and campaigns and plan events. Each Communications Community event is owned by a different communications team, as listed below, focusing on their area or from colleagues who have come forward and asked to share their work.

Contact your local representative if you want to learn more about the community or wish to host an event.
